Roses with delicate flowers of pastel colors are quite deservedly popular both among amateur gardeners and specialists working in the field of landscape design. The presence of sufficient variety resistance and unpretentiousness make the Aqua variety in demand in the conditions of home gardening in many regions of our country.

Characteristic and Description

Description of the Aqua cut rose variety is given by the originator of the variety, Petrus Nicolaas Johannes Schreurs from the Netherlands:

  • large flowers, have a characteristic pink-lilac staining;
  • flowers individually located or collected in inflorescences;
  • the edges of the petals have a darker and more intense color than painted so that the edge of the base;
  • staining of flowers varies depending on the stage of flowering, as well as under the influence of sunlight;
  • at the stage of complete dissolution, the petals acquire a very original color;
  • the petals are characterized by sufficient density;
  • buds have a classic tea hybrid, goblet shape and have a pronounced floral aroma.

The plant is medium in height, upright, with very strong and even shoots. The rose bushes of the Aqua variety have practically no studs.

Pest protection

Diseases and plant parasites can cause very strong damage to rose bushes, and in some cases cause the death of an ornamental plant, therefore, attention should be paid to the fight against pathogenic microflora and pests. Agrotechnical and protective measures should be not only timely, but also correct.

The greatest danger during the period of active vegetation of a decorative plant is represented by larvae and adult insects for rose bushes, the food for which is buds, foliage, shoots and flowers. Despite the huge number of sucking-gnawing plant parasites, it is especially dangerous for roses to be hit by bugs, caterpillars and larvae of sawflies, which slow the growth and development of the plant and reduce flowering.

Rose: variety selection

The main pests and methods of control:

  • Aphid colonies are most often located on the underside of foliage, as well as on the stem part of young shoots and buds. For mass lesions, spraying the aerial parts of rose bushes with Actellic, Antio, Karbofos, Metathion or Rogor is recommended. As a prophylactic, it is allowed to use a solution based on 2 g of kerosene, diluted in a bucket of warm water, or onion-garlic infusion;
  • Significant damage to the leaves of the rose is caused by cicadas, which give the foliage a marble tint, cause yellowing or falling of the leaves and reduce the decorativeness of the culture. At the stage of mass damage to the plant by larvae, a double treatment of the rose with insecticidal preparations is carried out;

  • one of the most dangerous pests of rose bushes is a spider mite, the defeat of which violates the physiological and metabolic functions, and also cause a loss of decorativeness. To destroy the pest, the aerial parts are treated with the drug “Akreks” at a concentration of 0.08% or with the drug “Isofen” at a concentration of 0.05%;
  • in the spring, leaves and stems of a rose can be affected by caterpillars of the leafworm, which causes the destruction of a significant part of the vegetative mass of decorative culture. Depending on the degree of damage, manual pest collection or pesticide treatment may be carried out;
  • shoots damaged by rosacea sawflies quickly darken and dry out, and the fight against this dangerous plant parasite consists in digging the soil in autumn, pruning and burning affected stems, as well as early spring treatment of rose bushes with pesticides.

Proper protection of rose bushes from pests is a priority for flower growers, since plant parasites can not only completely destroy rosary plants, but also quickly move to other garden crops.

Shelter for the winter

According to reviews of domestic flower growers, A rose of the Aqua variety does not have sufficient winter hardiness and needs competent sheltering for the winter period:

  • preparation of rose bushes for the winter period should be started already in the last decade of summer;
  • at the end of August, it is required to slow down the plant's growth processes by stopping watering and top dressing with nitrogen-containing fertilizers;
  • Feeding with potash fertilizers gives a good result, which accelerates the maturation of the aerial parts of the ornamental plant;
  • in the first decade or mid-September, it is required to trim the aerial parts at the same level with the height of the shelter used;
  • spraying the bush with a solution based on iron sulfate or Bordeaux mixture helps to strengthen the immune system and increase the stability of the rose;
  • hilling decorative culture is necessary to a height of about 20-25 cm.

Somewhere in the middle of October, at stably negative temperatures, the main shelter is carried out. Most often, in the conditions of home gardening, the option of an air-dry shelter is used, which allows you to effectively ventilate the space. In this case, a metal or wooden frame is created up to 60 cm high. On top of the frame you need to stretch the insulation in the form of lutrasil, glassine or ordinary cardboard. The last layer should be represented by a plastic film, which will not let moisture and frost inside the shelter.

Florist tips and tricks

Like most hybrid tea varieties, the Aqua rose needs careful and competent care, which allows it to preserve the decorative qualities of the culture for a long time. Experienced growers are advised to adhere to the following recommendations when growing this variety:

  • the growing area should be represented by moderately moist soil with good drainage;
  • areas with high groundwater and heavy clay soils should be avoided;
  • the best feeding will be a slurry solution or special complexes based on mineral fertilizers with the addition of nitrogen;
  • the soil should be constantly moist enough, but without signs of waterlogging, and irrigation is carried out with warm water, directly under the root.

How to plant a rose

The rose of the Aqua variety is perfectly adapted for cultivation in open ground in the middle zone of our country. It has sufficient resistance to temperature changes, adverse external factors, and damage by pathogenic microflora. Flowers are distinguished by sophisticated beauty and a very pleasant aroma. Variety "Aqua" is equally well suited both for cutting to compose a bouquet, and for decoration of garden design.
