Stately white gladioli are truly a decoration of the garden and the pride of every gardener who raised them. To get the right plant without any deviations, you will need patience and true love for the cause, because gladioli, like roses, have their own preferences and need care.

Varieties of white gladioli

All types of gladiolus have similar characteristics. The leaves are long, but rather narrow, reminiscent of swords from afar. Their color is intense green with a gentle bluish haze, and this combination looks great. Inflorescences of the plant can produce up to 25 buds, depending on the variety, but no more than 10 opens at a time. The flower is very beautiful, funnel-shaped, most often large and dense.

White gladioluses look especially elegant, they are increasingly used in bridal bouquets, because such beauty looks unusual and spectacular and live, and in the photo.

And there really is plenty to choose from, because breeders have brought out a considerable number of light irises with various shades.

Polar bear. It’s not for nothing that the gladioli varieties of the Polar Bear got such a name, because they truly have a bearish size. The height of the plant stem can reach 170 cm, of which 65 cm falls on the spike, which means that it necessarily requires support, which must be taken into account when planting. This subspecies is quite old, since it was bred back in 1980 by the Moscow florist Evdokimov.

In the middle climatic zone, the Polar Bear is considered a mid-early variety and blooms on 75-79 days after planting. Depending on various weather factors, the flowering date may shift. The buds are arranged in two rows, they count up to 20 in the inflorescence, but about 6-8 pieces open at a time. In the open state, the flowers delight the eye for 2-3 weeks, they stand well and cut for a long time.

The flower in size reaches 14x15 cm, its color is pure white, and only the pharynx casts a greenish tint. The stamens and pistils are the color of milk, and the skirt is quite corrugated, which makes this variety especially festive and elegant.

White angel. Gladiolus White Angel was bred in Ukraine in 1998 by breeder Nina Miroshnichenko. The height of the plant does not exceed 120 cm, and the stem is quite dense and stable, however, it should be protected from strong gusts of wind. This variety is medium early and behaves fine after cutting, so it is often used in bouquets.

The buds are arranged in two rows and fit snugly together, and their color combines the most delicate shades. The lower petal of the flower has a delicate cream color, and the middle can sparkle with light pink. Stamens can vary from white to deep pink. The flower is very corrugated, the petals have a dense fleshy texture. From afar, the open buds really resemble an angel who spread its wings.

White wizard. The gladiolus giant variety White Wizard reaches a height of 180 cm and requires the obligatory garter of each stem separately. With this size, approximately 80-90 cm fall on the inflorescence, where 23 buds fit. At one time, only 8-9 flowers are opened, which is due to their size up to 15 cm. This variety was bred in 2002, and the originator was Kiselev.

The plant has buds of a very unusual color. The main color is milky white, but before blooming, it looks like a greenish. The pharynx is represented by a more saturated cream shade with original raspberry veins. It also looks very corrugated and has characteristic flakes along the edge of the petal.

In 2002, Kiselev introduced another variety of gladioli called the White Sea. Its height does not exceed 150 cm, and 70 cm is allocated for the inflorescence, where 20 to 21 buds are located, of which no more than 8 bloom simultaneously.

Each individual flower has a height of 15 cm and a creamy white tint. The lower petal is the most saturated and dark, and the stamens and pistils can acquire a slightly lilac color. The buds in the dissolved form are very lush and are super-corrugated. This makes them unusual and elegant flowers that will decorate every holiday and can be presented to both men and women.

How to plant gladioli

Basic care requirements

Gladioli from corm are bred, which is replaced with a new one annually. With each subsequent season, the bulb becomes more weighty and can be used for 3-4 years, then it is disposed of. In order not to lose the variety, flowers are propagated with the help of children that form around the corms. It is recommended in the first year to remove the peduncle after the appearance of the first bud, as it is required that all useful elements are sent to strengthen the onion.

Before planting, you need to soak the tubers in a weak solution of potassium permanganate overnight, this will not only sanitize planting material, but also serve as a growth stimulator. Then future flowers are planted in a permanent place, as they do not tolerate changes. It is better to prepare the soil in advance and dig it twice: in autumn and spring. Fertilize the ground before winter with the help of compost or humus at the rate of 8 kg per 1 sq. Km. m. In spring, apply superphosphate 50 g per 1 square. m

Particularly important is the additional feeding of gladiolus throughout the entire time. Nitrogen fertilizer will be required twice at 4 and 8 weeks after the tubers are planted. Enough 30 g per m². You should also adhere to the following scheme:

  • 1 top dressing - occurs for 3-4 weeks, use chicken droppings in a ratio of 1:20 or mullein infusion 1:10;
  • 2 top dressing - used at 8 weeks, contribute 25 g of superphosphate and 10 g of potassium sulfate per 1 square. m;
  • 3 top dressing - carried out before the release of buds, using superphosphate and potassium sulfate as in the second stage of fertilizer.

If the flowers are intended for cutting, it is important to leave at least 4 leaves, which will give the tubers the opportunity to develop and maintain quality until the next season.
