Buzulnik (Ligularia) is a perennial herbaceous plant, actively used to decorate the garden, as well as the territory near water bodies. Belongs to the Astrov family, found in nature in Southeast and East Asia.

General description of the plant

Buzulnik is a perennial with long cord-like roots. The width of the leaves is 0.6 m, the length is 0.5 m. The diameter of the bush is 1 meter, the color and shape of the leaves depend on the variety. The inflorescences of the plant are racemose and thyroid, the seeds are in the achene.

Flowering bush in the summer for 2 months. In total, there are about 180 plant varieties; in the Russian Federation, only 1 species is found in nature from them. In landscape design, 2 types are actively used.

Features of planting and care

Buzulnik sowing is carried out in the spring. Planting of seeds occurs directly into the soil to a depth of 1 cm. The soil must be moist before planting. Shoots should be shaded from noon to evening. If you sow the seeds in November, they will undergo a natural stratification, which is also not bad.

When growing buzulnik seedling method, the seeds are sown in January. Propagate the flower and get self-sowing. However, in this case, bloom should be expected from him only for 4 years.

Buzulnik planting care begins in mid-spring.

  • To begin with, it is necessary to loosen the soil well, then water and mulch it. In summer, you will have to maintain soil moisture by watering every 3 days.
  • If the soil is poor, it is recommended to add organic top dressing to it. Also, for buzulnik in the open ground, mineral substances are also introduced - 1 time in 14 days during flowering.
  • If you do not intend to collect the seeds as soon as the flowers wither, they are recommended to be cut. In winter, ridges with a plant mulch humus; the flower does not require shelter.
  • The plant is poorly affected by pests. His only enemy is slugs. From them it is recommended to use special traps in the garden.

How is the reproduction of buzulnik

Ligularia propagates by seed or division of the bush. In this case, the best option is to divide the bush.

  • During the growing season, separate part of the bush and plant it. The best time for transplanting is spring, during this period the bush is actively developing.
  • After leaves appear from the soil, transplant the plant.
  • To divide the whole bush is not worth digging, you can just slightly dig it up and separate the required part.
  • Then sprinkle the soil into the pit of the mother plant, and rinse the separated root in water, cutting it into pieces with a knife. Each part should have a kidney.

  • Treat sliced sections with potassium permanganate or charcoal.
  • Plant the prepared material in pre-made holes. At the same time, before planting, it is worth introducing superphosphate, ash and humus into the soil.
  • During planting, make sure that the kidneys are located close to the ground, about 3 cm from it.
  • If several bushes are planted at once, between them it is worth leaving a distance of 1 m, so the plants will not be crowded.

Buzulnik should be planted in the fall. This is due to the fact that during this period:

  • the leaves of seedlings are not yet so developed, so they will not evaporate a huge amount of moisture;
  • the bush rejuvenates much faster, which means that the flowering will be magnificent;
  • Plant survival is significant, and flowering can be expected as early as the year of planting.

Landscape design

In landscape design, ligularia is used in groups and as a tapeworm. It goes well with plants such as:

  • soft cuff;
  • hosts and daylilies;
  • serpent highlander.

If the bush of a buzulnik is high, it is recommended to use it in single plantings. So you emphasize the amazing beauty of the plant. Whole walls can be made from low and medium-sized bushes. They also look good near trees.

Buzulnik in landscape design

Everyone can grow a buzulnik on his site. But for good growth, you need to choose the right variety, depending on the climate in the region, competently plant and not forget about watering. Then you will get a spectacular plant that will delight you with its appearance all summer.
